Waterfall Samodivsko Spraskalo

The highest waterfall in the Rhodopes, reaching about 70 m in height. It is located in the protected area “The Devinska River Valley” and is accessible via an eco-trail

Magnificent natural wonder

Samodivsko Prskalo (also known as Samodivsko praskalo) is one of the most beautiful and impressive waterfalls in the Rhodope Mountains, located about 40 km from Devin. With a height of 15 meters, the waterfall descends majestically along a sheer cliff, creating a fine water mist, which, according to local legends, is home to samoys.

The waterfall is part of a cascade of smaller waterfalls along the Churekovska River (Churenska), which springs from the Churen Lakes. It is especially impressive in the spring, when melting snows increase the flow of water.

Route to the waterfall

  • The total length of the route is about 6 km in one direction

The route is of medium difficulty and is suitable for tourists with basic physical training. Along the way there are several places to rest with wonderful views of the surrounding peaks.

Legends and history

According to local legends, the waterfall was a meeting place for wild boars who came at night to bathe in its waters. It was believed that water has healing properties, especially on the night against Midsummer.

The area around the waterfall is rich in historical finds from Thracian times, which testifies to the ancient veneration of this place as sacred.
