Natural treasure of the Rhodopes

The canyon of waterfalls is one of the most impressive natural treasures in the Rhodopes, located about 30 km from Devin, near the town of Smolyan. This unique natural phenomenon is a picturesque canyon with a length of about 6 km, through which the Gerzovitsa River passes, forming a series of 46 waterfalls of different heights.

The highest waterfall in the complex is “Orpheus” with an impressive 68 meters high, and other notable waterfalls include “Ropkata” (40 m) and “Svirchovitsa” (25 m).

Eco-trail “Canyon of the waterfalls”

In 2006, a special eco-trail was built, which allows tourists to enjoy the beauty of the canyon and waterfalls in complete safety:

• Displacement: 250 m
• Passage time: 3-4 hours
• Difficulty: medium

Along the route are built:

• 18 bridges over the river
• Multiple wooden stairs and platforms
• 8 places to relax with gazebos
• Information plates about flora and fauna

How to get from Devin

By car:

• From Devin to Smolyan (25 km)
• From Smolyan to Hajduski Polyana (10 km)
• Parking in a separate parking lot at the beginning of the eco-path

With organized transport:

• Regular buses Devin-Smolyan
• Taxi from Smolyan to the start of the eco-trail

Flora and fauna

The Canyon of the Falls is home to an extremely rich biodiversity:

• Over 100 species of plants, including rare and protected species
• Century-old trees, some over 200 years old
• A variety of birds, including water blackbird and mountain eagle
• Small mammals and amphibians characteristic of mountain ecosystems

Working hours:

• The eco-trail is open all year
• Recommended time to visit: April-October
• It is not recommended to visit in bad weather

Entrance fees:

• Adults: 6 BGN
• Children, students and pensioners: 3 BGN
• Children up to 7 years: free
