Trigrad Gorge

Magnificent natural phenomenon

The Trigrad Gorge is one of the most impressive natural formations in Bulgaria, located only 26 km from Devin. This remarkable gorge is formed by the Trigrad River, which has carved a deep canyon with almost vertical rock walls reaching a height of up to 350 meters.

The narrow passage between the majestic rocks creates a unique atmosphere, and in some places the distance between the rock walls is only 3 meters. The road that runs through the gorge is carved directly into the rocks and offers breathtaking views of this natural phenomenon.

Cave “Devil's Throat”

In the heart of the Trigrad Gorge is located one of the most famous Bulgarian caves - “Devil's Throat”. According to legend, it was here that Orpheus descended into the underground kingdom in order to save his beloved Eurydice.

The cave impresses with:

• Huge underground hall “The Roaring Hall”
• 42-meter underground waterfall - the highest in the Balkans
• Unique acoustics and constant roar of water
• Mysterious hydrology - objects that fall into the waters of the cave never leave it

Routes and Access

From Devin to the Trigrad Gorge:

• By car: 26 km (about 40 minutes) on a scenic mountain road
• Organized transport: daily buses and minibuses
• Cycling route: for advanced cyclists due to the mountainous terrain

Walking routes in the area:

• Eco-trail “Devil's Path” - follows the current of the river in the gorge
• Route to the village of Zhrebevo with panoramic views of the gorge
• Link to the route to the Yagodina Cave

Flora and fauna

The Trigrad Gorge is home to rich biodiversity:

• Rare plant species, including Rhodope silvryak and Rhodope haberlea
• A variety of birds, including rock eagles and black storks
• Wild goats that can be spotted on rock walls
• Butterflies and other insects characteristic of the area

Opening hours of the Cave “Devil's Throat”:

• May-October: 10:00-18:00 h.
• November-April: 10:00-16:00

Ticket prices for the cave:

• Adults: 10 BGN
• Pupils and students: 5 BGN
• Children up to 7 years: free
